An 85th minute miss by Raheem Sterling ensured that Manchester City’s second comeback attempt against Lyon was frustrated, condemning the English side to defeat.
Lyon won the quarter final encounter 3-1, but the result may have looked differently if Sterling had buried a sitter he ballooned over an empty post.
His miss allowed the french side to build from the back and then seal their spot in the semi-final with a second goal by substitute, Moussa Dembele in the 87th minute.
Despite Manchester City starting the game as favourites, it was Lyon who drew first blood – Maxwel Cornet scoring in the 24th minute to turn the game on its head.

City went into the break trailing by that goal, but Kevin De Bruyne stepped up in the 69th minute with an equaliser.
Lyon, however, did not take it sitting down, but came out guns blazing with a goal in the 79th minute coming from substitute, Moussa Dembele (first UCL goal of the season for the frenchman).
This miss, however, in the 85th minute, could have been the equaliser:
Lyon progress to face German champions, Bayern Munich, while fellow French side, Paris St Germain take on another German team, RB Leipzig.
