UEFA have handed Morata and Rodri a one-match ban each for misconduct during Spain’s Euro 2024 winners’ parade, per The Athletic.

The pair were filmed singing ‘It’s Spanish, Gibraltar is Spanish”, with Gibraltar’s FA subsequently submitting a complaint to UEFA. They claimed the song was “extremely provocative and insulting”.

The ban for Morata and Rodri will stand for all UEFA competitions, meaning that it will take effect for their Nations League campaign.

Spain will be without the striker and the midfielder for their fixture against Serbia on September 5.

UEFA’s statement explained that the pair have been banned due to them “failing to comply with the general principles of conduct, for violating the basic rules of decent conduct, for using sporting events for manifestations of a non-sporting nature and for bringing the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute”.

While the ban has taken immediate effect, it will not affect domestic fixtures.

Rodri will likely play for Manchester City against Manchester United in the Community Shield this weekend, while Morata is set to make his AC Milan debut against Torino later this month.
