The Nigerian Senate has announced that lawmakers in the upper chamber of the National Assembly have postponed the resumption of its recess originally scheduled for September 17, 2024.
This decision was detailed in an internal memo from the Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze.
The Nigerian senate announced the new resumption date to be Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
As revealed in the memo, the change in date is based on instructions from the Senate leadership.
The Internal Memorandum is titled “Change in Resumption Date from Summer Break”
The Statement
It reads: “Dear Distinguished Senators, I hope this memo finds you well.
Please be informed that the resumption date from the ongoing recess has been rescheduled from Tuesday, September 17, 2024 to Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11:00 am.
“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
The lawmakers were expected to resume on September 17 after enjoying their seven-week annual recess which began in July.

However, the break has now been extended by one week.
The Nigerian senators are not alone on this.
House Of Reps Postpones Resumption
Members of the House of Representatives have also postponed their resumption.
Originally set to end on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the new resumption date is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
Hon. Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, announced the delay in a statement to Parliamentary Correspondents on Wednesday.
