Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World is still going strong in Nigerian cinemas, getting close to the ₦300 million mark after three weeks.
The film earned ₦43.9 million from February 28 to March 2, pushing its total earnings to ₦298 million, according to the Nigerian Box Office.
The movie had a strong start, making ₦137.5 million in its first weekend the highest opening of 2025 in Nigeria so far.
A Hit with Nigerian Audiences
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Brave New World led the box office during the February 14-16 weekend, showing Nigeria’s growing love for superhero films.
By the end of its second week, the film had earned ₦226 million, adding another ₦57.2 million between February 21 and 23.
While the movie is performing well in Nigeria, its global success is more uncertain.
Global Box Office and Challenges
Internationally, Brave New World has been the top movie for three weekends in a row, but some worry about its overall earnings.
The film, directed by Julius Onah, is Anthony Mackie’s first solo appearance as Captain America after taking over the role in Avengers: Endgame.
Last week February, it remained number one in U.S. cinemas, earning an estimated $15 million. However, the 2025 Academy Awards took media attention away, slowing down its box office momentum.
So far, the movie has made $341.8 million worldwide, beating The Incredible Hulk (2008) at $265.5 million and The Marvels (2023) at $199.7 million.
Final Box Office Predictions
Experts predict that Brave New World may finish its cinema run with around $400 million, similar to Eternals ($401.7 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432.2 million).
However, unlike those films, which faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brave New World had a clear release. This makes its lower-than-expected performance a concern for Marvel Studios.
Audience and Critic Reactions
The film has received mixed reviews. Critics gave it a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but general audiences liked it more, giving it an 80% approval score.
As the first Captain America film starring Sam Wilson, Brave New World serves as a fresh start for the franchise, continuing the story after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers passed on the shield.
