SARS: The victim is alive, wasn't shot, Keyamo defends operatives

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has on Sunday, dismissed viral reports on the killing of a 22-year-old resident of Ughelli in Ughelli North local government area, Joshua Ambrose by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS at Ughelli.

iBrandTV gathered that there was a widespread canard on Saturday that the operations of SARS in Delta state, assaulted and killed a young man in the state.

However, Keyamo has proved the report is erroneous.

Keyamo stated that he contacted the victims brother and the state’s Commissioner of Police, to confirm the incident, emphatically opined that those officers involved in the incident are not SARS but ‘Operation Delta Safe’.

Reacting to the incident on his Twitter handle @fkeyamo, the minister said: “I just spoke with both the Commissioner of Police, Delta State and the Area Commander in Ughelli where the unfortunate incident involving a young man and the police which took place yesterday (Saturday).”

He equally confirmed that the victim was not shot as said by his brother, but fell out of the Police vehicle when being taken to the station after the arrest. Though the brother insisted that the victim was pushed; but the police confirmed otherwise.

“He jumped”, said the commissioner. Keyamo equally seized the opportunity to condemn the extra-judicial killings by SARS and other Police outfits against defenceless citizens, calling for comprehensive reforms and overhaul of the system.
