Kompany will now reunite with his former teammate, Sane at Allianz Arena, however, with a much different dynamic – a dynamic that the retired defender had already predicted almost six years ago.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sane said [via Sport1]: “When we were together at City, he actually told me that he would be my coach one day.

“I just said: ‘That won’t happen!’ Now it has happened – unfortunately.

“No, it was just a joke.

“I am very happy that he is now our coach and can work at such a top club.

“As a player, Vincent was an absolute leader – someone who sets the direction, who wants to see dominant, fast and courageous football.

“As a player, too, he always expected that from his teammates.

“Our time with him will be very good.”

Despite the disappointing campaign in Burnley’s first season back in the Premier League, Kompany’s side did impress a lot of fans and pundits with the positive and aggressive play, as they looked to dominate the ball and play a high-line even against the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Over the course of the season, the Clarets did get some positive results under their belt, however, it wasn’t enough as they fell down to the Championship.
