Veteran Nigerian rapper Ruggedman has reportedly been arrested and is currently being held by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos.
According to human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, the rapper’s arrest is linked to an ongoing dispute with the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
Harrison revealed the development via a post on his Instagram page on Thursday.
He raises alarm over what he described as unlawful treatment and lack of due process by the authorities.
“No proper investigation has been concluded. He and others are being maltreated. I wish to draw the attention of Nigerians to what is going on,” Harrison Gwamnishu stated.
The activist condemned the police’s handling of the case.
He alleged that Ruggedman and other individuals are facing mistreatment despite the absence of a thorough investigation.
The controversy stems from PMAN’s internal crisis, which escalated in August 2024, when the association announced the suspension of Ruggedman and fellow artists JFO Baba Ojonorgua, Sunny Neji, and Zaaki Azzay.
They citied allegations of misconduct.
While the exact nature of the dispute remains unclear, sources close to the matter suggest that the arrests may be part of a broader clampdown related to a leadership tussle or administrative disagreements within PMAN.
