Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears after seeing Portugal prevail in an epic UEFA Nations League final penalty shootout with Spain.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo helped to take the game to spot-kicks.
His 138th international goal levelled the tie in normal time at 2-2. He was unable to see the contest out after picking up an untimely injury.
That knock meant CR7 was forced to watch extra-time from the bench, while being restricted to the touchline for a battle of nerves from 12 yards.
Ronaldo was unable to watch as five of his fellow countrymen stepped up to the spot.
However, Alvaro Morata’s miss for Spain proved to be decisive, as Ruben Neves crashed Portugal’s fifth penalty into the back of the net – sparking scenes of wild celebration at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Ronaldo formed part of those, but only after falling to his knees and breaking down in tears.
The 40-year-old superstar went on to lift the Nations League trophy – having previously done that in 2019.

Ronaldo, who is yet to agree an extension to his lucrative contract at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, will now enjoy a summer break – having ruled out a move to a club competing in the FIFA Club World Cup – and that will allow him to make a decision on his future while also recovering from the ailment that brought his Nations League final to a premature conclusion.
