The political crisis rocking Rivers State seems to be far from the end or perhaps, Nigerians are just yet to see the end of it.

This crisis stirs from the face-off between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged godfather, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Indeed, it has lingered for months bearing with it heavy consequences for the state, particularly its political landscape.

Rivers State Crisis: NJC Opens Investigation Into Conflicting Rulings By Judges

As this drama continues, some judges have gotten themselves into trouble with the National Judicial Council (NJC).

As we speak, the council has officially launched a probe into judges of federal and state high courts.

Their conflicting rulings concerning political cases in Rivers State is what is steering this boat of trouble their way.

Just like every other investigation, the probe is led by a panel.

The panel includes a former justice of the Court of Appeal and two heads of courts, under the oversight of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Fresh Directive By The CJN

On Monday, the Chief Justice met with the panel.

There, the CJN issued a directive for a swift conclusion to the investigation.

She directed that the probe’s report be submitted within the week.

The inquiry focuses on several judges involved in adjudicating the ongoing political crisis in Rivers which has led to multiple legal disputes.

Additionally, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court has been summoned by the Chief Justice and is scheduled to be questioned on Tuesday regarding these issues.

This action follows several formal complaints to the Council.

However, it was Justice Kekere-Ekun herself who initiated the comprehensive probe suo moto.

Her move was in respond to significant public concern over the judicial inconsistencies.

The NJC’s probe aims to address these conflicting rulings that have complicated the political landscape in Rivers State.

Furthermore, These rulings raised questions about the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary in managing politically sensitive cases.
