With the prolific Erling Haaland absent again, Argentina striker Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez also impressed as they got on the scoresheet, but the night belonged to Lewis.

Kevin De Bruyne’s substitute was the turning point in a game in getting their second goal when he brilliantly played through Alvarez with a wonderful first time pass behind the Sevilla defence. After collecting the ball, the Argentine breezed past Bounou and coolly bagged his second ever Champions League goal.

Pep Guardiola said of Lewis: “We see him every day, we don’t give out presents here. Not just because he’s a Manchester City fan and from the academy, he has to earn it. But we’ve since day one that this guy has something special. He’s aggressive enough defensively but does have a lot of margin to improve and with the ball when playing inside he is so good. And outside he showed today with his crossing and finishing.”
