Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was stabbed 14 times during an incident at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on Monday, May 12, 2025.
The attack took place at approximately 7:20 a.m., leaving Lanez with several injuries, including seven stab wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face.
Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. However, reports indicate that he is now breathing on his own and in stable condition.
Prison staff responded quickly to the attack, providing immediate medical attention and transferring Lanez to a hospital in Bakersfield.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
Lanez’s legal team expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from fans, stating that he is “pulling through” and is “thankful to God” for surviving the attack.
The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear, and the identity of the attacker has not been made public.
This incident has raised concerns about inmate safety in prisons, with calls for stronger measures to protect inmates and prevent such attacks.
Tory Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, and the shooting case remains a subject of public discussion.
