
Tension escalated in Makurdi, Benue State, as angry youths took to the streets on Tuesday to protest the killing of Emmanuella Ahenjir. She was a 23-year-old final-year student of Federal University, Wukari.
She was reportedly shot by police officers.
The tragic incident occurred last Friday morning near the Wurukum roundabout.
Emmanuella was allegedly gunned down by unidentified policemen.
According to reports, was in a vehicle coming from the Gyado Villa axis of town.
Furthermore, outraged by the news, scores of protesters predominantly young people, stormed the streets demanding justice.
The protest was led by Ukan Kurugh, a well-known gender rights activist and social advocate.
With placards that read “End Police Brutality”, “Justice for Emmanuella”, and “Our Lives Matter”, the demonstrators converged at the Wurukum roundabout, the site of the tragic shooting.
Their demands include an immediate and transparent investigation into the killing and swift disciplinary action against those responsible.
The protesters have called on the Benue State Government and Nigeria Police Force to take swift and decisive steps to address the matter. Also, the demand an end to rising cases of extrajudicial killings.

The demonstration highlights the persistent public outcry against police brutality in Nigeria, echoing sentiments from previous nationwide protests.
