The appointment of a new head coach for the Super Eagles is now under the control of the presidency, according to a recent report.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Sports Ministry have been ordered to step aside from the process.
The NFF has yet to announce a permanent successor since Finidi George’s resignation.
In the interim, Augustine Eguavoen, the NFF’s technical director, has been appointed to manage the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.
“The appointment of the new Super Eagles coach is now beyond the NFF and sports ministry,” a source within the NFF told Complete Sports.
“The presidency is now in control of the entire process, and we can only hope they make the right decision.”
The source added that it remains unclear whether the presidency will consult with the NFF or the Sports Ministry before finalizing the selection of a new coach.
