Premier League clubs decide against five subs for 2020/21 season

English Premier League clubs have today, voted to discontinue allowing teams to make five substitutions per game ahead of the 2020/21 top flight season.

Today’s vote will see substitutions return to the normal three per game, meaning seven names will be named on the bench against nine.

The 20 teams playing next season’s championship met at a shareholders meeting to discuss rule-changes ahead of the September 12 league resumption.

In attendance were Leeds United, Fulham and West Brom who all recently gained promotion.

The league had agreed to allow five substitutions ahead of project restart to help clubs cope with the congested schedule.
