Mane capitalizes on Kepa’s error to slot home

It was another poor day at the office for the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, Kepa Arrizabalaga, as his howler resigned Chelsea to a 2-0 loss to Liverpool.

A horrible afternoon in goal for the Spaniard was summed up by his contribution to Sadio Mane’s second goal.

Much had been made of Chelsea’s investment in the squad over the summer, but it was the ever-declining form of Kepa that crumbled Frank Lampard’s chance to show how far the team had come since last season.

For Liverpool, poor goalkeeping is a familiar problem that bore the name – Lloris Karius for a while, costing them a UEFA Champions League title, and forcing an investment in the second most expensive goalie in history, Alisson Becker.

While the problem may have been solved in Merseyside, the cloak of Karius continues to haunt stamford bridge.

Today’s game began with both teams evenly matched, until a red card to Andreas Christensen for a tactical foul on Mane reduced Chelsea to 10 men.

Liverpool started the second half in fine form, capitalizing on the man-advantage by bagging a goal in the 50th minute. Mane doubled his lead four minutes later, Tomori – on for Christensen – gave a back pass which Kepa played into the feet of Mane to slot home.

Chelsea found it difficult to recover from them on, but had a chance to grab a consolation when Timo Werner won a penalty in the 78th minute.

Jorginho stepped up to execute his famous technique, but Alisson became the first goalkeeper to save his spotkick in the EPL.

Chelsea have a quick chance to recover their form in the EFL cup on Wednesday against Barnsley.
