Police arrest 3 over alleged theft of 25 sheep in Jigawa

Three suspects have been arrested by the Jigawa Police Command in Dutse Local Government Area of the state over alleged theft of 25 sheep.

SP Abdu Jinjiri, the Police Spokesman in the state, told our correspondent in Dutse on Wednesday that the arrest followed several complaints by residents of Fanisau village of cases of theft of their livestock.

Jinjiri said the suspects aged 40, 30 and 25, and residents of Kiyawa LGA, were arrested at Bakin Ruwa village in Dutse.

The command’s Public Relations Officer said the suspects were arrested while loading 25 suspected stolen sheep into a Volkswagen Sharon with Abuja registration number KUJ 316 AR.

“In the second week of May 2020, there were complaints of massive theft of domestic animals in Fanisau village, Dutse LGA, in this regard, the police commenced an investigation into the matter.

“Intelligence revealed that all the stolen animals were being gathered and would soon be loaded into a vehicle at Bakin Ruwa village, Dutse LGA for onward conveyance to the market for sale.

“To this end, the police stormed the area and succeeded in getting the vehicle, a Volkswagen Sharon model with registration number KUJ 316 AR loaded with 25 suspected stolen sheep.

“Three suspects aged 40, 30 and 25; indigenes of Kiyawa LGA were arrested, while two took to their heels,” Jibrin said.

He said efforts were being made to arrest the two fleeing suspects while investigation into the case was ongoing.
