For days now, the social media space has been on fire over the arrest of popular whistleblower, PIDOM, by suspected government agents.
As we speak, the call for PIDOM’s release is still springing up on the internet.
Nigerians did not forget to drag the Tinubu-led government and the Nigeria Police.
To many, “tracking down and arresting a journalist while terrorists walk free, means that there is something fishy going on.”
While many fired the government and police, others were more interested in getting more information.
PIDOM Vs Police
Now, more information has been gathered on the real identity of PIDOM and why he was arrested by the Nigeria Police-National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC).
Information has revealed that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was investigating PIDOM.
Also, investigative journalist David Hundeyin, who has been handling the X account of PIDOM, on Friday, disclosed that the whistleblower was detained by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity gave the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) more information.
According to the source, Isaac Bristol, a Rivers State resident, is suspected to be behind the PIDOMNigeria X account.
Breach Of Official Secret
According to FIJ, PIDOM was tracked and arrested by NPL-NCCC for publishing classified documents and also accused of terrorism.
The source said: “The police received petitions against him, but it was the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) that tracked and apprehended him.
“From the petitions, the biggest allegations against him are a breach of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and terrorism financing.
“They also accused him of espionage, treasonable felony, computer wire fraud and unauthorized removal of classified documents.”
