Phone repairer remanded by Court for defrauding customer of N464,500

A phone repairer, Akanmu Jamiu, has on Wednesday been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court, in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly withdrawing N464,500 from his customer’s bank accounts.

iBrandTV gathered that, Jamiu, is facing a count charge of fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, had prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr E.I. Omisade, however, declined and asked Okobie to put up a written bail application for his client.

He adjourned the case until July 15, for ruling on the bail application.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Olayiwola Rasak, had told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence between May 18, and July 3, in Osogbo through the complainant’s two bank accounts.

The prosecutor said the complainant had given Jamiu his phone to repair but the defendant allegedly obtained the complainant’s bank details to carry out the fraud.

Rasak said the two bank accounts belonged to one Babatunde Jamiu.

He said that the defendant allegedly withdrew the sum of N446,500 from one of the accounts and also withdrew the sum of N20,000 from the other bank, totaling N464,500.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Volume II, laws of Osun, 2002.
