Petrol Price: Motorist, households, others pay above N170/L in Adamawa, Kwara, Plateau

Despite the Federal Government official pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol, at N162 to N165 per litre, three states across the country sold above the price.

iBrandTV findings shows that the state involved include, Adamawa, Kwara and Plateau.

While Adamawa’s residents paid N173.67 per litre for the product, residents of Kwara and Plateau paid N170.40 for the product.

This development has further raise questions by motorists, households, organisation as well as stakeholders are lamenting on the price difference, whereas states far from the region sells less.

For instance, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, NBS, in its “Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for July 2021’’ released on its website, stated that, residents of Taraba, Gombe and Niger State recorded the lowest average prices of petrol at N162.25, N163.17 and N163.71 per litre.

The report further noted that, the average price paid by consumers for petrol increased by 15.51 per cent year-on-year and decreased month-on-month by 0.18 per cent to N165.91 in July from N165.61 recorded in June.

Residents groan

A motorist who simply wanted to be address as Issa, blamed the Federal government about the development.

According to him, ” This situation is toxic and unexplainable. How can i pay for petrol here in Kwara that is closer to Lagos 170 per litre, while residents in far north Gombe pays less.

“We really need a government in this country that can look into the plight of the masses.”

Mr. Nwora Amaka, trader in Jos who spoke to iBrandTV on the situation, expresses her displeasure over the development.

According to her, “Where do we go from here, killing, high cost of food commodity, now petrol.”

NBS report on AGO

Meanwhile, the statistician agency in its report noted that, average price paid by consumers for Automotive Gas Oil otherwise known as diesel increased 3.46 per cent month-on-month and by 11.76 per cent year-on-year to N250.82 in July from N242.43 in June.

The bureau said states with the highest average price of diesel were Borno at N264.18, Adamawa N261 and Abia N260.

However, states with the lowest average price of diesel were Plateau at N230, Anambra N233.67 and Kogi N234.17.

The NBS said in arriving at the report, field work was done solely by more than 700 of its staff in all states of the federation supported by supervisors who were monitored by internal and external observers.

Fuel prices were collected across all the 774 local governments across all states and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents and locations, it said.

It added that the price reflected actual prices households bought fuel together with the prices reportedly sold by the fuel suppliers.
