On Friday, Anambra State, as well as the entire Nollywood family, was thrown into mourning as veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest at his Obosi country home in Idemili South Local Government Area.

Amid tears from family members, relatives, friends and the entire Nollywood family, the funnyman, who joined his ancestors after battling a serious health challenge was laid to rest.

Muonagor’s tragic demise dealt a heavy blow to the Nigerian film industry.


The caliber of people who turned up in Anambra to pay their last respect to Amaechi Muonagor echoes his immense contribution to the growth of the Nigerian movie industry.

Among those who turned up to mourn the late actor were, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Dom Onyenji, among others.

Peter Obi delivered a heartfelt condolence speech, in which he expressed sadness over the death of the Nollywood icon.

He urged the bereaved family to take heart as he prayed to God for the repose of his soul.

On his part, Onyenji noted that Nollywood had lost a creative personality in the late Amechi Muonagor.

The Commissioner maintained that the Anambra State government came to the burial ceremony to mourn with Nollywood noting that the legend played his roles well while alive.

Furthermore, he mentored and groomed numerous stars in the industry.

Also at the burial was the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Emeka Rollas, represented by veteran actor, Steve Eboh.

He urged the bereaved family to take heart as the deceased was a great man.

Eboh prayed that God, in His infinite mercy, would give them the heart to bear the loss.

In her speech, the state chairman of AGN, Chinyere Anyaegbunam, said they lost somebody precious to all.

According to her, the late icon was somebody people looked up to as a father figure in the industry.

Amaechi Muonagor Begs For Funds

Anyaegbunam said that the late Muonagor mentored many of them in the movie industry.

Amaechi Muonagor passed away on March 24, 2024.

Renowned for his comedic roles, Muonagor succumbed to a prolonged struggle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Before his death, the actor had appealed to Nigerians for financial aid to undergo a kidney transplant in India.

His death adds to the numerous deaths recorded in the Nigerian film industry leaving Nigerians with one question, what is happening in Nollywood?
