At Elizabeth Jack Rich’s 40th birthday celebration on Tuesday, May 16, Pete Edochie and Kanayo made their way up to the Ooni’s table and gave him an Igbo “cultural” handshake, as shown in the widely shared video from Thursday, May 25.

Social media users on Twitter commented on the footage, with some criticising the actors for violating the custom by shaking the monarch’s hand.

A Twitter user called Pete Edochie out for acting improperly towards the monarch and called his behaviour disrespectful.

He wrote ” This is wrong but I wont stress it… I let it slide“.

Entrepreneur Sommy Keshi, in a defending post argued that a titled chief shouldn’t submit to the Ooni. He penned, “High Chief for a reason, Igbo Kwenu”.

Meanwhile, Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie, has responded to the controversy surrounding the handshake he offered the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi by posting Sommy Keshi’s answer to the Tweep.
