If you’re wondering what led to the fiery chaos at Otedola Bridge, here’s what happened.
A devastating explosion rocked the area on the evening of March 11. A fuel tanker lost control, crashed and set off a raging inferno.
The 30-tonne DAF gas truck was navigating Otedola Bridge, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The impact caused a massive explosion, sending fireballs shooting into the air right in front of a nearby Redeemed Church.
Within moments, the flames spread uncontrollably.
Also, it engulfed the church, an adjoining bungalow, and at least four vehicles caught in the fire’s path.
Adding to the destruction, several mechanic workshops in the area were also affected as the blaze tore through structures, leaving behind a trail of smouldering wreckage.
Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), swiftly arrived at the scene and launched efforts to contain the fire.

Unfortunately, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the casualty figure in a statement.
“Three adult male victims with severe burns have been rescued and transferred to Gbagada General Hospital burns unit while the remains of an adult male were also recovered,” LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said.
Motorists and residents have been urged to steer clear of the area as authorities work tirelessly to prevent further damage and restore normalcy.
