A gallant police officer shot dead

Bandits attack two banks Thursday, in ile-Oluji area of Ondo state, gun down four persons including two policemen, and carted away with some money.

IBrandTV gathered that, two banks which includes, First bank and Polaris bank were simultaneously attacked around 4pm by over 20 bandits.

They blew off the entrances with dynamites, started shooting sporadically to scare away bank customers and passerby. About ten other bank workers and customers were seriously injured in the process.

An eye witness told our reporter that the bandits acting on tip off arrived the banks at closing time when customers were in a hurry to beat the time of closure.

The hoodlums reportedly gunned down the two policemen in a bid to operate freely.

While one of the policemen was shot on the head, the other inside the police vehicle was shot in the stomach.

After demobilising the policemen, the bandits moved to the banking hall where they carted away an unspecified amount of money.

The report of the robbery spread to the town following which some local hunters in the town mobilised and faced the bandits in a shootout.

While some of the bandits reportedly fled through the bush others took off in the vehicle they brought for the operation. It took about 20 minutes after the robbers left for armed policemen and soldiers to arrive at the scene.

Meanwhile, The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, but said the robbers did not steal money from Polaris Bank.

He said, “The details are still sketchy about the number of casualties, but our men have restored normalcy in the area.”
