Update: Okada/Tricyclists Ban: No sight of Okada, Keke Napep at Apapa, others

… None compliance in some areas

Following the commencement of total enforcement ban on activities of commercial motorcyclists, popularly called, “Okada” and tricyclists, “Keke Napep”, there seems to be total compliance as Apapa road, Lagos Island streets have no trace of Riders.
The state government had last Monday, announced plans to commence total enforcement of Reform Traffic Law of 2018 on activities of motorcyclists, on restricted routes and bridges across 15 Local Government Areas of the state.
The councils are: Apapa LG, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Lagos Mainland LG , Yaba LCDA, Surulere LG, Itire-Ikate, LCDA, Coker-Aguda LCDAs, Ikeja LG, Onigbongbo LCDAs, Ojodu LCDAs, Eti-Osa LG, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs, Lagos Island LG and Lagos Island East LCDA.
However, iBrandTV gathered that at Apapa road, Lagos Island, no Keke Napep rider is ready to take the risk as they left their motorcycle at home to observe the situation of things.

When iBrandTV visited the popular park where riders load passengers going to Costian and Iponri, no activity was taking place.
Commercial drivers have to inflate their prices at Oyingbo Bus Stop, all geared toward  according to a driver, taking advantage of the situation to benefit more.
Total compliance at Iyana-Ipaja
There is total compliance at Iyana-Ipaja bus stop, as the usual hustling bus stop of these operators was completely deserted.
Some of the miscreants who were seen under the pedestrian bridge lamented at the development describing it as ‘bad market’
One of them who identify himself as Taiwo said: “This is completely bad for us. imagine I have not ate anything today, because the Okada Riders did not work and I cannot collect money from the yellow bus because it is not in my jurisdiction’.
The Opay bus stop under Iyana-Ipaja bridge is completely out of service.
While Police from Iyana-Ipaja division and Aboru were on ground to arrest offenders and also control traffic at Iyana-Ipaja.

Meanwhile, iBrandTV in a chat with an Okada Riders at Yaba who confirmed that consequent upon the Ban, most Riders  would take to kidnapping and stealing.

Non Vehicle owners, artisans lament in Victoria Island
Lagos residents residing in Victoria Island part of Lagos who are not mobile have since morning resorted to walking to their various destinations as Keke NAPEP and Okada operators observe total compliance to the ban.
This development has created room for bicycle owners to flood different streets of Victoria Island.
Also, non vehicle owners who are supposed to be in different occasions are stranded and are lamenting as taxi and bus drivers have decided  to hike transport fares.
For instance, from Obalende to Eko hotels that used to be N100 is now between N150 and N200.

A resident who resides at Bishop Oluwole street, attending a wedding at Idowu Taylor, Mrs. Florence Bassey, said: “To get a vehicle it quite challenging today, and do not have N1000 to give to a taxi drivers.
“I want to start trecking to the place now even with my high heels as I do not have any other alternative.”

Partial Compliance 
iBrandTV gathered that there was partial compliance at Ojota/Oregun Road as some commercial motorcyclists and trycylists flout the restriction order but were apprehended by law enforcement agents.
Miscreants were seen giving information to the defiant riders as commuters lamented the restriction order.

However, there seems to be areas where Keke and Okada Riders are still operating within Lagos.
Keke Napep working at Abeokuta
IBrandTV gathered that Keke Napep and Okada Riders are currently going about their daily loading activities at Lagos Abeokuta Expressway.
At 7:30am this morning in Lakowe area of Ajah, some of the tricycle operators who were initially afraid to ply the road have started working and picking passengers after.
While commercial Okada riders have restricted their operations to inner roads and streets.
