Nigerian On-Air Personality, OAP, Do2dtun has blasted South African singer, Tyla, following her acceptance speech at the 2024 VMA Awards.
Do2dtun did not hold back when addressing Tyla’s controversial acceptance speech at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
Tyla won in the Best Afrobeats category.
This sparks reactions by distancing herself from the Afrobeats genre during her acceptance speech.
She emphasised that African music is much broader than Afrobeats and identified herself as an Amapiano artist, a genre with roots in South Africa.
In response, Do2dtun took to social media to voice his dissatisfaction.
He questioned why Tyla accepted the award if she didn’t align herself with Afrobeats.
He suggested that she should have either turned down the nomination or the award.
Do2dtun went on to criticise her for what he saw as undermining Afrobeats at a global event that should have celebrated the genre’s achievements.
