The University of Calabar appears to be in the bad books of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Now it has taken a decisive action in response to irregularities involving graduates from the university.
The National Youth Service Corps announced that the University of Calabar fraudulently mobilised 99 individuals and granted exemptions to two others during the 2021 to 2023 service years.
As a result, the NYSC has invalidated the Certificates of National Service for these 101 individuals.
We urge the public to verify the authenticity of any NYSC certificates by contacting the National Directorate Headquarters.
NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, made this shocking revelation in a statement on Monday.
The Management reiterated its commitment to issuing Certificates of National Service only to qualified individuals.
It insists that that graduates from unaccredited universities will not be recognised.
‘Unqualified Nigerian Youths’
The statement reads: “This is to inform the public that the University of Calabar fraudulently mobilised the following ninety-nine (99) individuals, along with two (2) others granted an exemption, for National Service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Service Years”.

The NYSC Management emphasises its strong commitment to preventing the recognition of unqualified Nigerian youths, whether they are locally or foreign-trained,” the statement read.
“We make it clear that graduates from unaccredited universities, in particular, will not receive recognition. The Management affirms that it will issue NYSC Certificates of National Service only to qualified individuals.”
The statement continued, “As a result, the Certificates of National Service of the under-listed individuals have been invalidated forthwith by the Management.”
The NYSC advised the public, particularly Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Corporate and Religious Organisations, Multi-National Companies, Corps Producing Institutions, and other critical stakeholders, to take note of this development.
It also encouraged the public to verify the authenticity of any Certificate of National Service, Exemption, and Exclusion Letters with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
