Enugu State Government has on Monday, dispelled the news making the round in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State that one Celestine Agbo, who came back from the USA last week tested positive for Coronavirus and had had contacts with many people.

The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, described the news  as “false, misleading and fake,” adding that it is rumour since there is no testing centre in neither Nsukka nor the state at large to confirm if anyone has the virus or not.

In the statement, the state government urged the residents to restrict movements, cancel all unimportant gatherings and observe personal hygiene.

The statement read in parts “The General public is informed that as at today 22/03/2020,  there is no case of Corona Virus in Enugu state even as all is encouraged to restrict movement, cancel all unimportant gathering and to observe personal health hygiene.”

The news which the state government debunked alleged that Mr. Agbo who is suspected to be living with COVID-19 returned home for his sister’s traditional wedding and  had contacts with people in hotels, home, bars and other public places.

It equally implored the general public to avoid public gathering and asked those who had contacts with him to report themselves for quarantine.
