The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM) has called for the adoption of its corporate values and principles to better equip leaders with the capacity to improve the nation’s economic and social standing.
Mrs Patience Anabor, President, NIM made the call at the institute’s pre-60th anniversary press conference, the unveiling of its anniversary logo and jingle on Tuesday in Lagos.
Anabor said that the principles, inclusive of integrity, accountability, fairness, equity and  effectiveness, would help see leadership through tough times.
She also urged government on the provision of a more conducive business environment, reward mechanisms and infrastructure development.
The NIM president called for better management of the nation’s infrastructure to reduce capital flight and brain drain.
She said that the institute would continue to educate and inform through its various advocacies, through the implementation of the institute’s code of conduct by putting service above self, and sorting things out in the most effective and economical way.
“The various issues we have in the nation did not start today, but they have increased because the problems which are caused by greed, poverty and corruption have not been managed properly.
“We would continue to educate the public on the practice of the values of integrity, accountability, fairness, equity, effectiveness of the institute to achieve a better nation.
“There is also need for reward and job satisfaction to reduce brain drain and lack of foreign direct investment.
“At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it took a lot for doctors to get protective gears and yet, it is expected of them do their jobs.
“Nigeria is blessed with very many capable people that would do the right thing in the right way if the right environment and opportunity presents.
“We must therefore follow best practices to fight and eliminate, and if not totally, maximally reduce corruption in our dear country,” she said.
Anabor said a new logo had been created as part of the ongoing evolution of the institute, in line with its mandate of impacting positively on the human resource of the nation through capacity building, re-engineering, consultancy and human capital development.
“This, we have been doing since its establishment in 1961 to regulate and control the management profession,”she said.
In his remarks, Asiwaju Michael Olawale-Cole, Chairman, NIM 60th anniversary committee, said that the institute had done a great work of its mandate of regulating and controlling the practice of professional management in the country with visible results.

“In the light of the Institute’s achievements, our choice of theme, Celebrating 60 Years of Management Excellence: Poised for More, is very apt and resonates with the ethos of professional management.

“It is our desire that this anniversary celebration will lend a voice to the call for managerial excellence through identified best practices across the length and breadth of our dear country,” he said.
