Nigeria’s National Grid Suffers Second Disruption In 2025

On Friday, March 7, 2025, Nigeria’s national grid failed once again, marking the second major outage this year.

At exactly 2:00 pm, the disruption cut off electricity to homes and businesses, further exposing the country’s ongoing power struggles.

Nigeria’s National Grid

Shortly after the incident, electricity distribution companies addressed the situation.

Ikeja Electric announced on X: ’We experienced a system outage today, 07/03/2025, at 14:00 hrs, which has disrupted supply within our network.

Our team is actively working with stakeholders to restore power.’’

Meanwhile, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) explained that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had reduced power allocation in an effort to stabilise the grid.

‘’This situation has forced us to implement unavoidable load shedding across our network,” Eko DisCo stated.

“However, we are collaborating with TCN and other partners to restore supply as quickly as possible.’’

Nigerians Struggle Once Again

As a result, millions of Nigerians now face yet another round of power shortages.

Businesses have once again turned to costly generators, while households struggle to cope with the uncertainty.

No End In Sight?

Despite government assurances of grid improvements, authorities have yet to implement lasting solutions.

Consequently, frequent power disruptions continue to affect economic productivity and daily life.

Without urgent intervention, Nigerians will remain in a cycle where reliable electricity is more of a privilege than a guarantee.
