Nigeria's COVID-19 death toll hits 261, as total infection surpasses 9,000

No fewer than two hundred and sixty-one deaths to Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been recorded in Nigeria, as the total infections in the country surpassed 9,000, now at 9302.

This came following the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, daily report on the outbreak in the country on Friday night, which disclosed an additional 387 new case of COVID-19.

The NCDC also recorded 254 cases of COVID-19 in Lagos. Lagos had 65% of the total cases as COVID-19 figures keep soaring in the state amid a high recovery.

According to the report, “On the 29th of May 2020, 387 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 9302 cases have been confirmed, 2697 cases have been discharged and 261 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory

“The 387 new cases are reported from 14 states- Lagos(254), FCT(29), Jigawa(24), Edo(22), Oyo(15), Rivers(14),Kaduna(11), Borno(6), Kano(3), Plateau(2), Yobe(2), Gombe(2), Bauchi(2), Ondo(1).”

Meanwhile, the NCDC said that, In an effort to increase COVID-19 testing capacity in Nigeria, States including Kano have set up mobile testing sites in communities

The NCDC team is working to address scepticism and stigma around COVID-19 in these areas to encourage compliance to testing.
