Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has earned a spot in the final of the women’s 200m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 21-year-old sprint sensation clocked a Season’s Best (SB) time of 22.05 seconds, finishing second in her semi-final race and securing an automatic qualifying position.
Ofili’s accomplishment marks a historic moment for Nigeria, as she becomes the first Nigerian woman to reach the 200m final at the Olympic Games since Mary Onyali’s bronze medal-winning performance at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Her journey to the final is particularly noteworthy, considering the administrative hurdles she faced leading up to the Games.
These challenges prevented her from competing in the women’s 100m event, making her achievement in the 200m event all the more impressive.
