1. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr Mike Ukaoha has been declared the winner of Arochukwu state constituency election in Abia State.

After collating the results of the rerun election, the Returning officer, Prof. Austin Uwakwe, announced that the APGA candidate, Mr Mike Ukoha, polled 6550 votes to defeat Mr Eric Aso Kalu, the PDP candidate who polled 5129 votes.

2. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Mr. Shina Olukolu, to take actions to implement the legal opinion of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) on the sacked local government chairmen in the state.

The IG in a letter on Saturday and addressed to Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshiloye, Chairman of the dissolved Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), urged the sacked ALGON Chairman to liaise with the CP to facilitate smooth takeover of the Local Government Areas in the state.

3. The All Progressives Congress, APC’s major stakeholders in the 20 wards of Port Harcourt City council area (PHALGA) of Rivers State have accused the State Governor, Nyesom Wike of desperately lobbying to join the party.

They said Wike’s desperation increased since the former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has refused to allow him (Wike) to take over the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

4. Leah Sheribu, a Christian girl, who has been in Boko Haram captivity for two years, has reportedly given birth to a baby boy.

Reports said Leah was delivered of the baby a few weeks ago following her forceful marriage to a top Boko Haram commander.

5. Hundreds of youth in Juji Community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday, staged a protest over the rampant cases of kidnapping in their community.

They marched from their community in the wee hours of Saturday to Sabon Tasha, where they blocked the highway for close to an hour.

6. The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has ordered the immediate impoundment of trailers without proper latch.

A statement on Saturday by the Corps Pubic Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, disclosed that FRSC has sealed partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to ensure that vehicles secured are not allowed to leave the Ports.

7. A fresh graduate from the University of Calabar (UNICAL), identified as Maxwell Lucky Enudi, from the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology (ZEB), has allegedly committed suicide after taking “sniper”.

It was gathered that the sad incident occurred at Ekpo Abasi in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State after Maxwell was being frustrated by his supervisor and had to end his life.

8. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Saturday, announced that it had activated a National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to coordinate response activities on Lassa Fever.

Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, NCDC DG, in a statement, said as at 24th of January, 195 confirmed cases and 29 deaths had been reported in 11 states.

9. Gunmen during the week attacked Policemen on routine “stop and search” duty along Obsanajo farms in Ogwashi-Uku Community in Delta State.

The gunmen also stabbed an Inspector to death as well as inflicted bodily injuries on others.

10. The Operatives of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Command in Lagos, has apprehended another 9 girls being trafficked.

A statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Sunday James on Saturday said the girls were on their way to Lebanon, Cairo, Dubai, and India on Ethiopian, Peace, Egypt and East Airlines.
