You see, trouble started on Sunday when an X user announced that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has died.

The user reported that Lagbaja died of cancer in an unknown hospital outside the country.

The post read: “The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has died. Lagbaja died in an undisclosed hospital overseas nearly 48 hours ago from stage three cancer, according to a senior government official.

“The death of the Chief of Army Staff has been kept secret because of intense lobbying by some Generals who want to take the position.

“Lagbaja, born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, as the 27th Chief of Army Staff.”

This report, in less than no time sparked heavy controversy on social media.

For hours, Nigerians flooded the social media space with numerous reactions, forcing the Nigerian Army to speak.

In reaction, the force denied the report calling it a fake news.

The X user, Jackson Ude, who happens to be a journalist says he is sure of his earlier report.

In fact, he has dared the Nigerian Military to share proof of life confirming that the COAS is still alive to Nigerians.

The sudden disappearance of Gen Lagbaja has since left the country in commotion.
