Nigeria records 193 new COVID-19 cases, as total infections surpass 5,000

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Thursday, confirmed 193 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, as total infections in the country surpass 5,000 now at 5,162.

The agency also stated that three persons have been confirmed dead to the virus, bringing the total number of death to 167.

According to the agency, “On the 14th of May 2020, 193 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 5162 cases have been confirmed, 1180 cases have been discharged and 167 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 193 new cases are reported from 15 states- Lagos(58), Kano(46), Jigawa(35), Yobe(12), FCT(9), Ogun(7), Plateau(5), Gombe(5), Imo(4), Edo(3), Kwara(3), Borno(3), Bauchi (1), Nasarawa (1), Ondo(1).”

Meanwhile, The Presidential Task Force on Thursday, reported the progress made with the evacuation of some Nigerians from the UAE, UK & USA.

While speaking during the PTF daily briefing on COVID-19, Chairman of the PTF and Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha said, Nigerians have in recent days been served with different audio-visual clips by some of these returnees.

“The PTF is saddened by the conduct of some of the returnees who fail to adhere to the conditions attached to their quarantine.

“I strongly urge them to obey the rules in the facilities and also urge their friends and relations to recognize the contagious nature of the disease by desisting from visiting them. Complying is in the interest of the visiting relation and in the overall public interest.” Mustapha said.
