*NCDC erroneously reported 2 new cases in Bauchi

Nigeria on Thursday, recorded another death to Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic in Delta State, as the toll hits seven in the country.

This is even as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed 14 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

While 13 cases were recorded in Lagos, another case was also recorded in Delta State.

NCDC erroneously reported two new cases in Bauchi bringing the total cases to 290 earlier.

However, in a swift reaction, the agency stated that, “Yesterday (Wednesday) we erroneously reported two new cases in Bauchi. Following further review, we can confirm that these were repeat tests for previously confirmed cases.

“We apologise for this error and remain committed to ensuring transparent and accurate reporting of test results.

“As at 09:30 pm 9th April there are 288 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. Fifty-one have been discharged with seven deaths. As at 09:30 pm 9th April, there are 288 confirmed cases in the country, 51 discharged and seven deaths.”

The breakdown shows that, Lagos remain at the top of log with 158, followed by FCT with 54, Osun- 20, Edo- 12, Oyo- 11, Bauchi- 6, Akwa Ibom- 5, Ogun- 4, Kaduna- 5.

Enugu, Ekiti, Rivers, Kwara, Delta all have 2 cases each, while Benue, Ondo and Katsina all have a case respectively.

How patient died in Delta

Meanwhile, the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, confirmed the death of the second COVID-19 case in the State.

Okowa on his verified Facebook handle on Thursday evening in a post, said the deceased who tested positive to the pandemic, had an underlying ailment.

According to him, “I have just been informed of another case of COVID-19 in Delta State. The individual in question, had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos State in the past two weeks.

“The patient presented himself late to one of our hospitals with severe symptoms including difficulty in breathing and was given the necessary attention by healthcare professionals.

“Shortly after the specimen was taken, he passed away. However, his test results came back positive today. In order to mitigate against the spread of the virus, we are fast-tracking our contact tracing to ensure that all those that came in contact with the deceased patient are properly isolated and tested immediately.

“Again, it is important that as we work to protect the citizens and residents of our state, families and friends of individuals that are exhibiting the primary symptoms of the COVID19 virus, do not keep it from the authorities. If you see something; say something.

“I will continue to keep you all informed of any new developments.” The Governor had yesterday confirmed the first index case of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic in the State.
