Abdulwahab Jafar, a student of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, Niger State, has been killed by suspected armed robbers.
Jafar, a 200-level student of science education (chemistry), was attacked in the early hours of Monday, June 23, 2025, at his off-campus residence, Nda Kitabu Lodge, located opposite the university’s second gate.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the lodge around 2:30 a.m. and stabbed him in the neck. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai, where he was later confirmed dead.
In response to the tragic incident, enraged students took to the streets in protest, blocking the Agaie–Lapai Expressway to demand justice and improved security measures.
The protest, which had already lasted for about an hour, disrupted vehicular movement and drew the attention of security operatives.
A journalist and founder of Lapai TV was allegedly attacked by a group of agitated protesters while carrying out his duties.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but the university community is calling for immediate intervention to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
