The Organised Labour has declared an indefinite nationwide strike following the government’s failure to conclude negotiations on a new national minimum wage and reverse the hike in the electricity tariff.

The nationwide strike will commence on Monday, June 3, 2024.

This latest development comes hours after President Bola Tinubu clocked one year in office.

The Organised Labour and the federal government have been at loggerheads over the new minimum wage.

As a matter of fact, the Organised Labour was said to have walked out on the federal government team at the Tripartite Committee meeting on the new national minimum wage.

The Union walked out of the negotiation when the government and the organised private sector remained adamant on the ₦60,000 offer made on Tuesday.

However, during a press briefing on Friday, leaders of NLC and TUC pleaded with Nigerians to bear with them.

According to the union: “Apologies for inconveniences but commitment to pursue the cause to its conclusion.”
