Netflix has renewed Kunle Afolayan’s series, Aníkúlápó, for a second season.
It was originally a 2022 epic fantasy film, before it was later adapted into the drama series Aníkúlápó: The Rise of the Spectre.
It captivated audiences globally, even reaching the coveted #1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list.
The series has continued to draw viewers in with its rich storytelling, rooted in Nigerian culture and mythology.
Production for the highly anticipated second season is already underway, with filming taking place across locations in Ibadan, Nigeria, and Ghana.
Also, Fans will be excited to hear that series leads, Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, and Lateef Adedimeji, are reprising their roles.
In addition, the new season will introduce an impressive lineup of fresh talent, including Nollywood veterans Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Adebowale Adebayo, and Saidi Balogun.
However, Kunle Afolayan, the visionary director and producer behind the series, expressed his excitement about the renewal.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Netflix has given us the opportunity to continue the Aníkúlápó journey.
“This story is very dear to us, and we take immense pride in telling it authentically, as it reflects not just Nigerian culture, but our history and identity.”
