Senator Ned Nwoko says he has instructed his legal team to pursue criminal and civil action against social-media influencer, Timothy Gabriel, popularly known online as “Tuma”.
This is for publishing what he calls “vile, reckless and malicious” allegations against him and his wife, actress Regina Daniels.
Senator Nwoko represents Delta North in the National Assembly.
The statement was released on Saturday by the Ned Nwoko Media Directorate and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The lawmaker stressed that Gabriel had repeatedly posted defamatory content, then “dared” the couple to respond and even invited legal action.
“Challenge accepted,” Nwoko declared
Also, he added that no citizen should be allowed to “hurl baseless, vulgar accusations” and then hide behind social media antics or street protests to evade accountability.
Spreading Falsehood
According to the statement, Gabriel’s posts not only targeted Regina Daniels, but sought to incite the public by spreading falsehoods about the senator’s personal and professional reputation.
The media directorate said Nwoko’s legal team also represented Regina Daniels.
It said they were “taking every step necessary” to hold Gaabriel and any collaborators fully accountable.
The media directorate is also doing this “through every legal means available”.
Ned Nwoko highlights that freedom of speech does not protect deliberate misinformation, particularly when it provokes hatred or cause reputational harm.
Also, he urged the public to remain vigilant against online fabrications masquerading as activism or press freedom.
Furthermore, he warned that such conduct could carry serious legal consequences.
The statement did not specify the exact nature of the alleged defamatory remarks. However, insiders say the senator is seeking both damages and a public retraction.
