NDDC: Akpabio, Pondei face EFCC probe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it has commenced investigations into allegations of mismanagement of funds and fraud against Minister of the Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei.

It said it was looking into the business of the NDDC.

The EFCC disclosed this in a letter addressed to a group, Foundation for True Freedom and Good Governance, led by activist, Deji Adeyanju.

Adeyanju was also invited to answer questions relating to the matter tomorrow on the third floor of the EFCC headquarters.

The EFCC’s letter titled, ‘Re: Request for Investigation of Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Prof. Daniel Pondei, acting MD NDDC over Corruption Allegations of Diversion of Public Funds’, confirmed the NDDC probe and Adeyanju’s invitation.

The letter read in part, “We write to acknowledge the receipt of your petition dated August 3, 2020 in respect of the above subject and to inform you that investigation into the case has commenced.

“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to attend an interview with the undersigned through the O/C team six on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at EFCC headquarters third floor.”

Recall that Pondei had famously fainted during a National Assembly probe into alleged mismanaged N80 bilion.
