In Kano, a sinister operation unfolded in the shadows until the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) brought it to light.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) made a significant breakthrough by uncovering a human trafficking syndicate operating in the heart of the city.
The agency in Kano took custody of 12 victims rescued from a human trafficking ring.
NAPTIP Zonal Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, made this announcement on Tuesday, August 13, in Kano.
This is during the handover of the victims by the Kano State Police Command.
According to Babale, the police arrested three suspects in connection with the trafficking operation.
Human Trafficking Suspects
They are Shafi’u Salisu, 25, from Bachirawa Quarters in Kano; Rebecca Adebayo, 22, from Kwara State; and Mujibat Olagoke, 27, from Oyo State.
He further disclosed that all the rescued victims, who range in age from 15 to 40, are female.
“On August 3, at about 4:15 p.m., a team of policemen from the Tsanyawa Division rescued the victims along Tsanyawa Federal Highway, Kano.
“They were caught while intercepting them as traffickers attempted to take them to Libya for labor exploitation.
“The 12 rescued victims are from Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, and Imo States,” he confirmed.

The Zonal Commander expressed his gratitude to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, for his support and cooperation.
He said the suspects would be charged upon completion of investigation.
“The victims will be counselled and rehabilitated before reuniting them with their families,” Babale stated.
He urged parents to protect their children from exploitation.
Also, he wants parents to prevent traffickers from luring them into slavery under the guise of better opportunities.
NAPTIP Zonal commander also called on the public to report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking in their communities to the authorities for swift action.
