The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially called in singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, to answer questions regarding his recent on-camera confession involving a 15-year-old girl.
During an Instagram Live session, Speed Darlington claimed he had a sexual encounter with a minor at a hotel.
He even detailed how he paid ₦2,000 to have the soiled sheets replaced.
His remarks triggered widespread public outrage.
This prompted the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to refer the matter to NAPTIP for investigation.
In the days following the backlash, the singer published a second video stating the original admissions were part of a promotional stunt for an upcoming single.
Also, he issued an apology to anyone distressed by his words but maintained that the story was fabricated for attention.
Summoned For Questioning
Despite this clarification, NAPTIP has moved forward with its inquiry.
In a statement released on Thursday, the agency confirmed that Speed Darlington has been summoned to its headquarters for formal questioning.
The notice makes clear that failure to comply will result in legal consequences, including possible arrest.
“We remain steadfast in our duty to protect children from all forms of sexual exploitation,” the NAPTIP statement read.
“Any individual suspected of wrongful conduct involving minors will be thoroughly investigated and, if found culpable, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
This development shows the serious legal implications of public figures making unverified or harmful claims, especially when minors are involved.
