The song has racked up over 4 million streams, blends Yoruba rhythms with bold declarations of faith.

But while it has resonated with Nigerian youth, some Christians, including a pastor, have criticised Gaise’s colourful hair, Lawrence’s headband, and the energetic dance in the music video.

In a passionate post on social media, Bamiloye expressed dismay:

Teenagers today are surrounded by secular influences. So, when a song boldly centres on Jesus and personal transformation, and they’re vibing to it — why are we criticising it?”.

Quoting the lyrics from Never Going Back — “Ife Jesu lo wa mi ri, to gbami ku o” (The love of Jesus sought me, found me, and died for me).

Mike Bamiloye emphasised that the gospel was being shared in a relatable way.

He challenged believers to see the bigger picture:

Out of 4 million streams, what if 400,000 youths genuinely surrender to Jesus? Isn’t that worth celebrating?”

Mike Bamiloye urged Christians to stop “saving the ark” with legalism and instead support gospel expressions that connect with this generation in their own language and rhythm.
