Filmmaker and evangelist Mike Bamiloye has publicly defended Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, following a recent backlash over the pastor’s comments on tithing.
Bamiloye took to social media to address the uproar that ensued after Adeboye issued an apology for his earlier statement that suggested those who do not pay tithes would not make it to heaven.
The pastor later clarified that this assertion is not supported by biblical scripture.
In his reaction, Bamiloye highlighted that Adeboye’s apology stemmed from divine correction, praising the pastor’s humility in acknowledging his mistake publicly.
He asserted that it requires significant courage for a leader of Adeboye’s prominence to admit errors and apologize in line with God’s guidance.
Bamiloye urged believers to focus on the larger spiritual lessons rather than criticising the pastor’s apology.
Quoting 1 Corinthians 2:14, Bamiloye remarked that spiritual matters are often misconstrued by those who do not share the same faith, stating, “It is beyond their reasoning.”
He emphasised that Christians, especially those anticipating the second coming of Christ, should have no problem with Adeboye’s call for a deeper commitment to their giving.
Bamiloye also encouraged fellow men of God to reflect on any statements or actions they may have made that require correction and to consider following Adeboye’s example of making public restitution when necessary.
He concluded with a reminder that achieving salvation and entering heaven should take precedence over pride and ego.
