Michael Jackson’s iconic 1983 “Thriller” music video has surpassed one billion views on YouTube, making it the fourth of his videos to join the platform’s Billion Views Club.
The 13-minute video, directed by John Landis and featuring a voiceover by Vincent Price, first aired on MTV in December 1983.
Known for its groundbreaking choreography by Michael Peters, the video depicts Jackson transforming into a ghoul during a full moon and performing alongside a group of zombies.
“Thriller” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984 and reached No. 3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Following Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, the song re-entered the Billboard charts, climbing to No. 2 on the Hot Digital Songs list.
The video was inducted into the National Film Registry that same year, becoming the first music video to receive such an honour.
“Thriller” remains the most-downloaded Halloween-themed song of all time.
