Veteran Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has opened up about the challenges of single motherhood and the tough parenting style she adopted while raising her daughter, Michelle.
She stated this during a press session at a recent film premiere in Lagos.
The 47-year-old actress reveals that she recently reached out to Michelle to apologise for the strict upbringing she experienced.
“Just three days ago, I sent her a message saying, ‘I’m sorry. You may have felt the way I raised you was difficult.”
And truthfully, it was. I was a bit tough, but I believe I was raising a vessel for God,” Mercy confessed.
She recounted a painful moment that made her reassess her parenting approach.
“I once called her, and she didn’t answer. I had to go through her friend, who then told her to return my call. When she eventually did, I asked, ‘Michelle, why didn’t you pick up?’ She replied: ‘Mum, I’m traumatised. I remember you once hit me on the head with a bucket.’”
Mercy Aigbe’s candid reflection sheds light on the emotional complexities of parenting, especially for single mothers trying to balance discipline and love.
