Five years ago, Megan performed on the VMA pre-show, making this her notable rise to hosting the main event.

She is only the second artiste to make this transition, following Nicki Minaj, who performed on the pre-show in 2010 and later co-hosted in 2022 and hosted solo in 2023.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the MTV VMAs will feature a rapper or rapper/singer as host.

Previous hosts include Doja Cat in 2021, followed by Jack Harlow, LL Cool J, and Minaj in 2022, and Minaj alone in 2023. The only other rapper to host the show was Diddy in 2005.

Megan Thee Stallion earns five nominations this year, including Best Collaboration for “Wanna Be” with GloRilla, Best Hip Hop for “Boa,” and three technical awards for “Boa” in Best Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction.

Her hit single “Hiss” recently topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third No. 1 hit and her first as a solo artiste.
