Amidst the chaos of fuel scarcity which has plagued Nigeria, oil marketers say they are optimistic about sourcing petrol directly from Dangote Refinery.
Chief Chinedu Ukadike of IPMAN announced a crucial meeting this week that could change everything.
With new distribution plans, there’s hope that the persistent scarcity might soon end.
In Nigeria, fuel crisis has left many petrol stations dry for over three months, causing frustration among drivers and businesses alike.
Yet, amid this scarcity, marketers are starting to feel a sense of hope.
They are eager to source premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, directly from the Dangote Refinery.
Chief Chinedu Ukadike, the Public Relations Officer of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), shared this optimism recently.
He revealed that a meeting is set for this week between IPMAN and officials from the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.
“We are happy that Dangote is now considering other stakeholders for distribution,” he said, indicating a shift that could benefit independent marketers who have been sidelined.

Currently, the refinery mainly supplies major marketers, leaving many independent operators struggling.
A Ray Of Hope For The Marketers
Ukadike believes that the new plans, including distributing through coastal areas using vessels, could finally address the persistent fuel scarcity.
“This will help eliminate the ghost scarcity that has affected us for so long,” he noted.
However, challenges remain, particularly around pricing.
Ukadike emphasised the need for independent marketers to secure competitive rates.
He mentioned that most of them are currently facing a supply price of ₦766 per liter, which he described as “not a good price now.”
He is hopeful that as supply increases and competition grows, prices will eventually fall.
As the meeting approaches, the possibility of a new supply agreement has sparked optimism among marketers.
They are ready to turn this hope into action, aiming to bring much-needed relief to consumers across Nigeria.
