Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips is set to join Ipswich Town on a year-long loan deal ahead of the start of the Premier League season.

Manchester City Outcast Phillips Agrees Season-Long Loan
Phillips

Phillips’ two years at Manchester City have not been as he would have expected when he made the switch in 2022 from Leeds United for a reported fee of £45 million ($57.8m).

His two years at City have been blighted by injury, poor form and a rocky relationship with Pep Guardiola.

However, the England international is now set to depart the eight-time Premier League champions on loan to Ipswich.

Despite having spent one and a half seasons with Guardiola’s side, Phillips has only made 31 appearances so far and only has one goal contribution to his name.

City have been looking to move the midfielder away on a permanent deal to try and recoup their 2022 investment.

However, they have now agreed to send him out on another loan after a disappointing stint with West Ham United last season.

Speaking to the media last week, Guardiola admitted he wasn’t sure what the future held for Phillips while also maintaining issues with his game.

Confidence

He told reporters: “Kalvin I don’t know what is going to happen with his situation.

“He was really good for the problems we had.

“I know Kalvin when he gets the ball and can see all the pitch in front of him he’s a really good player.

“When he has the small spaces there are more problems.

“That’s why with the problems we have he makes an incredible effort with his position.

“He was confident with the ball and helps us a lot.

“I’m really pleased with his performance.”
