Liverpool’s chances of signing top target Jude Bellingham this summer have reportedly suffered a setback.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Borussia Dortmund are under no obligation to sell the 19-year-old because there isn’t a release clause in Bellingham’s contract.

And as a result, it would take a huge fee to tempt them to part company with their prized asset, who has a deal until 2025.

This makes any potential transfer more challenging for the many interested parties.

Reports say “it is regarded as increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will sign Bellingham in this summer’s transfer window”.

The Merseyside club are currently being put off by the projected cost and are unwilling to enter into a bidding war due to the financial might of other interested parties.

The report adds that this does not mean their pursuit for Bellingham is off, but Real Madrid and Manchester City are thought to be in stronger positions at this stage.
